LOGO DESIGN COMPETITION RULES

 

What is the mission of the Gildenhorn Institute?

The Gildenhorn Institute for Israel Studies is dedicated to the study of Israel in all its variety and to the presentation of political, cultural and general interest programs featuring Israel and its place in the Middle East. 


Who may enter?

Anyone, whether or not affiliated with the University, may enter.

  • Entrants must be at least 18 years old as of the date of submission of entry.
  • Entrants may submit up to 3 designs provided they are separately submitted. 
  • Entrants may submit entries as an individual or as a team. 


How will entries be judged?

Submissions will be judged by a committee from and/or chosen by the Gildenhorn Institute for Israel Studies. Entries will be judged on all the following criteria:

  • How well they represents the Institute’s mission
  • Artistic quality and visual impact
  • Ability to be used successfully in different sizes
  • Easily reproducible in both black/white and in color
  • Equally appropriate for both print and web formats.


What should my submission include?

Each entry MUST:

  • Include both a black-and-white version and a color version of the design
  • Be submitted BOTH as a PDF and as an EPS file

A completed entry form must be included with each submission.  The entry form is available on-line at: www.israelstudies.umd.edu/logo/entry-form.pdf

Entrants are encouraged to submit a statement describing how their design meets the judging criteria.


What is the submission deadline?

 DEADLINE EXTENDED: All entries must be emailed by 5pm, November 9, 2009.  The judges, in their discretion, may accept late submissions.


How do I submit my entries?  

All submissions must be emailed to israelstudies-contact@umd.edu


How will the winner be announced?

The winner will be announced on the Gildenhorn Institute’s website: http://israelstudies.umd.edu and via email notice to all entrants. We expect the judging process to take less than 2 weeks.


What does the winner receive?

The winning entrant will receive one round trip ticket to Israel from the D.C. area.  The winning entrant will also have the right to identify him/herself as the designer of the logo and include the logo in his/her portfolio.  

The runner-up will receive a scholarship for $500.


Additional contest rules:

  • All logo designs must be the original work of the entrant and the entrant must own all rights in the design.
  • The winning submissions will become the property of the University.
  • By participating in the contest, the entrant of the winning logo design transfers and assigns all rights in his/her design to the University of Maryland, including ownership and copyright in the logo, in perpetuity without a right to receive royalties or other income from its use, and agrees to make minor revisions to his/her design if requested by the judges, without compensation.
  • By participating in the contest, entrants give the University permission to post their name & University status along with their design entries on the University website and in other venues and reproduce and display their name and designs publicly in other public venues in perpetuity and without compensation.
  • The Institute reserves the right not to choose any of the submissions.
